Suicide Risk Factors

Risk factors during development from  early childhood to adolescence that may lead to suicidal behavior during later development years include

  • Psychiatric problems in childhood and/or adolescence, including depression
  • Child and/or adolescent externalizing disorders
  • Childhood adversity (especially with the above)
  • Low self-esteem (self-efficacy)
  • Aggressive or delinquent behavior
